25 Years to Life Under California’s Three Strikes Law
|
Frederick Morgan
Over the years of my incarceration, almost eleven years to be exact, I’ve learned that discretion doesn’t apply in most drug related cases or any other non-violent/victimless crimes before the Office of District Attorney, Steve Cooley, of Los Angeles county. I’m not saying I’m innocent from drug addiction, or my past is favorable in the eyes of justice, but I definitely did not do anything ‘past or present’ violent that would constitute a life sentence. However, the trial court didn’t show a fundamental fairness of ‘due process’ in reference to ‘substitution of counsel’ either. I was denied counsel of my choice when my family diligently provided legal representation for my defense. I still wonder if my choice of representation had been given an opportunity would the outcome have been different. As difficult and misconstrued that the three strikes law is, I’m still seeking relief to find a law school or other legal services that would be willing to challenge the merits of the draconian law and has the resources necessary to help me fight this battle.
Any contribution towards this matter would be highly appreciated by my family and I. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Frederick Morgan, #J80058
